5/23/2025 EMSS Division Communication
EMSS Team Members:
Happy Friday, EMSS team – I hope you are all beginning to see a slightly slower pace as the spring semester has drawn to a close, and the unofficial start to summer arrives with this long holiday weekend, when we also honor fallen heroes. Before everyone heads out for the weekend, I want to share with you a few important updates from our division and the campus at large:
Student Satisfaction: Health Services
This spring semester, Student Health and Wellbeing Services (SHWS) surveyed our patients on their satisfaction with our health services. We had a good completion rate with 118 students completing the Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) survey and 116 students completing the survey about our medical services. The results indicated excellent satisfaction ranging from the ease of scheduling an appointment to the health care they received. An overwhelming number of students (95-100%) indicated good to excellent ratings in terms of the care and service provided by our receptionists; medical assistant / nursing staff; medical providers; psychotherapists; and laboratory, radiology, pharmacy, and physical therapy units.
Students provided good to excellent ratings in relation to gender affirming care (100%), medication abortion (100%), disordered eating (84%), psychiatry (78%), individual psychotherapy services (96%), psychotherapy / support groups (83%), and psychoeducation workshops (82%). Likewise, they gave good to excellent ratings of their medical providers' explanations of their condition (96%), concern for their condition (97%), and medical care and treatment of the condition (99%). Similarly, they conveyed (with good to excellent ratings) that their psychotherapists had a genuine understanding of their problems, thoughts and feelings (94%); helped them think about changes they wanted to make in their lives (90%); and helped them find solutions (89%). Pre- and Post-distress levels following a CAPS appointment reflected a significant positive change (48% to 21%). Students conveyed that they agreed or strongly agreed that having these services on campus is important (99-100%), and that they were more likely to graduate from the university because they were able to receive these services on campus (79-88%). A large portion of students (46%) felt that their academic performance had improved as a result of participating in CAPS counseling.
These results not only speak to the excellent work being done by members of the SHWS team, but also to the importance of CAPS and medical services to our students and their ultimate success.
Summer Communications with Students
Strategic Student Communications is still taking communication requests over the summer for HumBot texts and emails. Fill out our request form or reach out to Chelsea (cmm246@humboldt.edu) with any questions. The SMC is closed over the summer and will resume taking requests in early August, but there are still opportunities for communicating with students over the summer!

Get started in some small way this weekend, and I hope to see you all at our division End of the Year celebration next week!

- 5/9/2025 EMSS Division CommunicationEMSS Team Members: Happy Friday, EMSS team. We are in the whirlwind phase of the year, when we each go from one thing to another, barely having the time to think or do much more than what we must get done each day. But is also a season of joy, one that reminds us why we do this work, as we see students we first met several years ago, those we have joined on their journey in some way, prepare for the next phase of their life. Amidst this hectic time, I want to share with you a few important updates from our division and the campus at large:

- Google Drive Quotas - coming July 1, 2025Dear Faculty and Staff, In response to Google imposing data storage limitations on our campus, Cal Poly Humboldt is implementing updated storage quotas for all faculty, staff, and student accounts. After collaboration with a variety of campus groups and advisory committees, ITS will be implementing the following quotas on July 1, 2025. The most notable aspect of this proposed quota system is that current faculty and staff will not be required to further reduce their Google storage usage.
- Cal Poly Humboldt Professional Development Newsletter - May 2025This month inside Cal Poly Humboldt Professional Development Newsletter: Shining a Light on Our Colleagues As the semester winds down and the weather warms up, it's the perfect time to pause and celebrate the heart of our campus community—our staff, faculty, and students. Behind every successful initiative, seamless event, and meaningful student interaction, there's a dedicated team member (or several!) making it all happen.
- Nexus @ Noon event May 9Nexus @ Noon is where students, faculty, and staff converge to explore today's most pressing political issues. True to the meaning of "nexus"—a connection linking multiple points—this series will be a dynamic space for questioning, discussing, and researching political developments at local, state, federal, and global levels. With no set agenda, each session will be guided by the questions and interests of attendees, alongside insights from the Chair of the Department of Politics and special guests.
