Happy Friday, EMSS team – I hope you are all doing well, though I know it has been a stressful week for many of our team, for varied reasons. The incredibly packed but joyous end-of-the-year season is upon us, and I encourage you to enjoy the best parts of it, while taking time to unplug and decompress where you can, so you do not completely collapse once the semester ends.
SHWS News
With the end of the semester, could you use some tips to better manager stress? SHWS Executive Director Jen Sanford developed Managing Your Stress in 2025 for anyone who might be interested. It provides insight into identifying stressors and managing your response, and also provides additional resources that may be of help.
Commencement Support
Don’t forget that Spring 2025 Commencement is May 17 in the Redwood Bowl, with a regional celebration taking place in Beverly Hills on May 20. Commencement is such a special time for our students and their families, and it takes all of us to make the event a success – so please register to participate! Those who would like to provide support during Commencement should make arrangements with their supervisor and submit their interest and availability by today. Positions such as greeting, ushering, providing ADA shuttle and wheelchair support, providing parking and traffic support, supporting the graduate and faculty and staff line-up area, etc. are needed for the on-campus ceremonies. Information regarding shifts and assignments will be shared closer to the event.

Outstanding Student of the Year Awards – This incredible annual event celebrating our students and their successes this year will be held April 16 at 3 p.m. in the Great Hall.
Career Kickstart: A Workshop Series for Graduating Students – The Career Development Center has curated a series of workshops to be hosted throughout the month of April. Off-Campus Housing Info Sessions – Renting 101: April 15 & 16, from 4-5 p.m. via Zoom. Join us for an info session on everything you need to know about renting off-campus. Spring Preview and Preview Plus – Just a reminder that we are hosting the second of two Spring Preview events the weekend of April 19. Last year, more than 60% of attendees enrolled for fall – so, please, do whatever you can to support the event and positive experiences for our admitted students.
Accolades, Position Changes & New Hires
The YES Serv-a-thon for Cesar Chavez Day was a success! Although it was a wet, cold day we had a fantastic turnout! 76 volunteers attended and contributed over 220 hours to a variety of gardening projects.
Congratulations to Brenda Perez and Marcos Hernandez fin El Centro or a recent successful grant award! The Cal Poly Humboldt Research and Creative Projects for Equity and Justice (RCPEJ) review committee has approved funding for their 2025 proposal titled A Decade of El Centro, with an award amount of $10,157.
Please join us in thanking Erica Ashby and Jodi Smith for their contributions in Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) as they move on to new adventures next year. CAPS will be searching for a new case manager and practicum coordinator -- if you know a therapist that might have interest, tell them to be on the lookout for job postings soon.
Please help us welcome Lance Nave as the newest addition to our Residence Life Coordinator Team! The wait has been long, but we're so excited to finally have him here.
