6/6/2025 EMSS Division Communication
EMSS Team Members:
Happy Friday, EMSS team, and welcome to the last EMSS Division Communication for the 24-25 academic year. I am so proud of the work you have all done this past year, and I am excited to spend some time celebrating that work later today, at our End of the Year celebration.
I want to share with you a few important updates from our division and the campus at large:
EMSS EOY Celebration
Don’t forget, our division’s rescheduled End of Year Celebration is today, June 6, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in The Great Hall. Come enjoy time together, enjoy some fun crafts, and have lunch. We also plan to announce our division award recipients around noon!
Summer Mindfulness Drop-ins
CAPS is hosting a mindfulness group this summer that is open to staff, faculty, and students on Wednesdays through August 6 from 2-3 p.m. at the Student Health Center. These drop-in group sessions will include guided mindfulness practices to offer peace and restoration through the summer. Please feel free to join us for a relaxing break in your day and spread the word on your email lists/bulletins so folks know it is an available resource.
SEM Plan Update
The Strategic Enrollment Management (SEM) Implementation team updated the SEM plan for Spring 2025, which includes status updates on all original objectives, as well as new objectives that have been added. As an example, we have now incorporated Career Development Services into our enrollment and retention planning, in recognition of the importance of career outcomes for our students. We have also included the new enrollment targets, which were vetted by the Chancellor's Office and the Office of the Governor earlier this year. You can read the update here.
Summer Enrollment and Retention Work
While we all know that our campus pace slows in the summer, we cannot forget that this continues to be a pivotal time for new students making plans to join us in August, or continuing students who are deciding whether to return. Please do anything you can to engage with either prospective new students or continuing students with whom you have contact, to encourage their enrollment and re-engagement with campus for the fall. Current indicators for fall remain promising that we will meet our goal of growing by more than 4%, but it takes all of us working together to ensure we make it through the summer with strong numbers. If you have ideas for ways you or your team can help, please don’t hesitate to let me know!
Student Communication Needs
Strategic Student Communications is still taking communication requests over the summer for HumBot texts and emails. Fill out our request form or reach out to Chelsea (cmm246@humboldt.edu) with any questions. The SMC is closed over the summer and will resume taking requests in early August!
Dining and Bookstore News
The College Creek Marketplace has added fresh grilled burgers and chicken sandwiches for this summer's selections and is open 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily.
Don’t miss great deals at The Campus Store - save 20-40% now on select items in store or online through June 28th.
Accolades
Congratulations to Michelle Long, who graduated from Cal Poly Humboldt recently with her master’s in social work.
New hires/Position changes
Please take some time to welcome Angelina Ramirez Peirano to the Office of Student Life and Travis Richards as the new Umoja Academic Advisor.
Cliff LaMastus will be leaving his position as the VETS Center Coordinator as of Aug.1. We appreciate his dedication to veteran students on our campus and wish him the best in his next endeavor.
We will resume the division communications for the new academic year on Friday, Aug. 22. Please have a wonderful summer, make time to do things you enjoy with people who matter to you, and recharge for fall!
Take care of yourselves and each other,
