10/31/2025 EMSS Division Communication
EMSS Team Members:
Happy Halloween, EMSS team! I hope everyone is doing well today, and I know campus is brimming with the scents of fall, people in costume, and probably candy everywhere! I am taking some time off today to spend with my son at his school Halloween activities (knowing this is probably the last time he will want me there!), but I want to share with you a few important updates from our division and the campus at large.
Before getting into the individual items, I want to acknowledge the uncertainty that is facing many of our students and campus colleagues with the anticipated delay in Calfresh benefits due to the federal shutdown. A variety of teams have been hard at work to devise additional supports to decrease food insecurity during these trying times, and broader campus communications are planned early next week. Advancement is immediately launching a donor plea for support of our Oh SNAP! and Basic Needs funds, and work continues to ensure a stable supply of food in our pantry. In addition, the Dean of Students office has been working on a special weekly prepared meal opportunity for students, as well as increasing the availability of meal swipes for use in the J Dining Hall. Additional details will be shared soon, but always feel free to refer students to contact dos@humboldt.edu if they need support.
University Budget Planning
Don’t forget that the next rounds of divisional presentations to share the final budget reductions for FY 25-26 are next week. The presentations will take place Friday November 7, 2025 from 1-2:30 pm. The zoom link to join the meeting can be found at this link: Join Divisional Presentations. Divisional Reports Time Certains are as follows:
- Enrollment Management and Student Success – 1:10-1:40 pm
- Athletics and Recreation – 1:40-2:00 pm
- Academic Affairs – 2:00-2:30pm
New Hires and Position Changes
Please welcome the newest academic advisor for the ITEPP program, Sloan McKelvy. Her first day will be November 3, so stop by to say hello when you can.
I would also like to welcome Jizelle Morando to the Admissions team. Jizelle is the Admissions Recruiter for Orange County/Riverside/Inland Empire.
Accolades
Excellent job to the Career Development team and partners across campus for a successful Engineering Fair on Oct. 23 that allowed our students to connect with potential jobs and internships.
Cal Poly Humboldt's Fall Preview was a fantastic introduction to our campus for 342 attendees (229 students), which included 135 local students who came as part of school groups from community colleges and area high schools. This marked a shift from the previous year, in which student attendance was similar in total, but included no local participation. Many thanks to Sulaina Banks and the Admissions team for all their organizing work to develop this special Friday visit focus, and to all members of the campus community, across divisions, who showed up to promote the campus and our programs to prospective students.
