Cal Poly Humboldt Professional Development Newsletter - April 2025

This month inside Cal Poly Humboldt Professional Development Newsletter:  Artificial Intelligence Tools Available Soon on Campus

Last February, The CSU Chancellor announced an initiative to bring AI tools, including ChatGPT, to all 23 CSU Campuses. A dedicated AI platform with enhanced AI learning tools, resources and professional development for students, faculty and staff will be available at no cost.

While we wait for these tools to be available for us, try learning more about what Generative AI is and its practical uses by taking the courses below.

CSU Learn Courses

  • ChatGPT & Its Practical Use Cases - In this course, you will discover ChatGPT, focusing on its purpose and key features. Then you will compare its abilities to other language models. Next, you will explore the history of language models and artificial intelligence (AI) and the different uses of ChatGPT, including how it can be used in real-world applications.
  • An Introduction to Generative AI - TGenerative artificial intelligence (AI) focuses on creating models that can generate content such as text, images, or even multimedia. Unlike discriminative models that classify or label existing data, generative models operate by learning patterns from the provided data and producing novel outputs.

Cross Campus Collaboration Courses

  • Lunch and Learn: Life-Saving Bleeding Control Skills - This session will provide a brief overview of the most important practices for controlling bleeding in an emergency before professional responders arrive. You'll learn the basics of applying pressure to a wound, packing a wound to control bleeding, and correctly applying a tourniquet.
  • Empowerment Through Improvement: A Workshop for Ongoing Success - An interactive workshop designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills necessary for continuous improvement and operational excellence. Through a blend of theory, best practices, and hands-on simulations, you will gain a comprehensive understanding of process improvement methodologies.

  • How to Shake a Bad Mood - Many experts believe that our level of happiness is actually a learned skill, which means that you can learn to shake a bad mood or look at the world through more optimistic eyes.
  • Breath and Health - Have you ever experienced how altering the pattern you breathe improves your state of mind? Come experience the intimate link between our breath and our emotions.
  • Getting Started with MS OneNote - OneNote is a digital note-taking app that provides a single place for all your meeting notes, plans, and other information. This session is an introduction level course. MS OneNote is part of the Office 365 suite.
  • Practicing Leadership in Hectic Times - Part 1: Understanding and Using Authority - Many people believe leadership is about amassing the most power and being in charge of people. While using authority can be an important part of practicing leadership, the concepts are also distinct. This session (the first of two) will discuss concepts and functions of authority, how authority relates to leadership, and strategies for using authority effectively in our work.
