Cal Poly Humboldt’s Micaela Harris Named to NFCA Top 50 Watch List
Cal Poly Humboldt’s Micaela Harris has been named to the 2022 Schutt Sports/NFCA II Player and Pitcher of the Year Top 30 list. Harris is one of 50 student-athletes that have been selected as finalists for this prestigious honor. The winners will be announced following the conclusion of the 2022 season.
The award was created in 2015 to honor the outstanding achievements among softball student-athletes throughout NCAA Division II. In 2019, the Association expanded the award to include a Player and Pitcher of the Year. To be eligible, student-athletes must be nominated by their member head coach. With the cancellation of last year's season due to COVID-19 and a higher percentage of eligible candidates, an additional five players have been added to the traditional top 25.
Going into this weekend, Harris has a team high .418 batting average. She has started in all 34 games for the Jacks while posting a leading .691 slugging and .496 on-base percentages. The senior catcher/outfielder also leads the team with her seven triples, 46 hits, 38 runs scored and 29 stolen bases. She is 29-for-31 in stolen bases while drawing 16 walks. Harris has struck out just six times in 110 at bats this season.
The Rocklin, Calif., native has seven doubles, three home runs while driving in 14 runs this season.
In the recent CCAA statistics report, Harris is leading the conference in stolen bases and is tied for first in triples. She is second in on-base percentage and runs scored while she is third in hits, fourth in slugging percentage and sixth in batting average. Harris is fifth in the nation in NCAA Division II in triples and stolen bases.
The Top 25 finalists for the 2022 Schutt Sports / NFCA Division II National Player and Pitcher of the Year awards will be announced on May 5. A student-athlete does not have to be on the Top 50 list to be considered for the Top 25. The winner of each award will be announced on June 2, following the conclusion of the 2022 season.
