Another Top 10 National Ranking for Jacks Rowing

ARCATA, Calif.--- The Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks finished the 2022 season ranked seventh in the Pocock/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) NCAA Division II National Rankings.

ARCATA, Calif.--- The Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks finished the 2022 season ranked seventh in the Pocock/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) NCAA Division II National Rankings.

It is a return to year-end national rankings for the Jacks, who were last recognized by the CRCA in 2020.  The Jacks, under the direction of second-year head coach Matt Weise, finished fourth at the 2022 Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championships in mid-May.  Both the varsity eight and fours finished fourth at the GNAC Championships while the novice fours finished third.  The Jacks finished the season just missing the NCAA Division II National Championships.

Malia Seeley earned All-GNAC honors while Dana Foley was the GNAC Newcomer of the Year as voted on by the league's head coaches.  Humboldt’s Kealey Scott earned 2022 Academic All-District Women’s At-Large honors.  Seeley and Scott along with Marie-Claire Desplancke, Megan Franco, Cassidy Hollenbeck, Kierstyn Hughes, Marjorie Johnson and Sophie Reich were named to the GNAC 2021-22 Women’s Rowing All-Academic Team.

Besides earning honors in the water, several Jacks earned honors for their efforts in the classroom.  Six rowers were named Collegiate Rowers Coaches Association Scholar Athletes in Dana Foley, Cassidy Hollenbeck, Kierstyn Hughes, Marjorie Johnson, Kealey Scott and Seeley.  These six along with Marie-Claire Desplancke, Megan Franco and Sophie Reich earned GNAC All-Academic Team honors.

The Jacks were ranked as high as fifth in the nation and third in the NCAA Division II West Regional rankings at multiple points during the year.

During the season, the Jacks participated in six regattas and captured both the varsity fours and eights at the Covered Bridge Regatta in April.  As a part of those victories, Humboldt defeated two Division I institutions.

At the prestigious WIRA Championships on May 1 in Sacramento, the varsity eights finished second and the varsity fours were third in the Grand Finale.  Additionally, the Jacks defeated two more Division I Institutions at the Sac State Invitational and Aggie Invitational where Humboldt saw the varsity eight  named GNAC Crew of the Week.   History repeated itself later that season, as the varsity fours earned this honor after capturing first place at the Covered Bridge Regatta.
