When Driving is Not an Option: Author & National Advocate Anna Zivarts
Anna Zivarts, founder of the Week Without Driving and author of When Driving Is Not an Option: Steering Away from Car Dependency, will give a free public talk on Thursday, July 17 th , at 7:00 pm at Arcata’s D Street Neighborhood Center.
Zivarts will talk about the importance of meeting the transportation needs of nondrivers, how communities can work better for nondrivers (and everyone else), and valuing the expertise of nondrivers. Nondrivers include people with disabilities, college students, kids, older people, immigrants, people with suspended licenses, and people who can’t afford to own or operate a vehicle. Humboldt County’s nondrivers include at least 36,000 people without a drivers license, as well as an unknown number of people who have a license but can’t drive for financial or other reasons.
The talk is co-sponsored by the Cal Poly Humboldt Office of Sustainability, along with the Coalition for Responsible Transportation Priorities, the Redwood Community Action Agency, Environmental Protection Information Center (EPIC), North Coast Aging and Disability Resource Connection, 350 Humboldt, Creative Inclusion, Northcoast Environmental Center, and Tri-County Independent Living.
