Men's Rugby Season Opener
Hailing from the depths of the redwood forest, the Humboldt Men’s Rugby Club is ready for their first match of the season against San Francisco State University on Friday, Sept. 27, 2024, with a 7 p.m. kickoff under the lights of the Redwood Bowl! There will be running, tackling, and loud cheering such as the fan favorite “scrumboldt!” as they face off against a new opponent. This match coincides with their 51st anniversary and Rugby Alumni Weekend.
This anniversary for the men’s rugby program is meant for local alumni to welcome back all the generations of former players and support the future generations of student-athletes who pick up a rugby ball for Humboldt. This club is truly a local grassroots effort with four decades of alumni on the coaching staff, neighbors in our Humboldt community, and all volunteers. They are very passionate about the rugby alumni that played before them and look forward to making an impact for the next 51 years of the men’s rugby program.
Each year the rugby coaching staff, with the help of alumni and local sponsors, raise funds to help pay for travel and equipment costs borne by the club. Those costs are large to compete on the national stage, and your support will keep the student-athletes focused on their education, health, and family so that they can improve team performance. Consider donating HERE.
Saturday’s a rugby day! You can watch the Women’s collegiate team take on their alumni Saturday, Sept. 28 at 11 a.m. followed by Alumni Men vs. Mendocino at 1 p.m. on College Creek Field. You can visit the Women’s donation page HERE.
These are free events for students, staff, faculty, community members and alumni. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.
