Time Off: Unpaid Holiday and End-of-Year Vacation Accruals
As the end of the calendar year approaches, employees are encouraged to keep in mind guidelines for taking time off.
Thanksgiving is on Thursday, November 28 this year and is a paid holiday.
Pay Policy for Friday, Nov. 29
As published in the Green & Gold calendar, the campus will be closed Friday, November 29 (day after Thanksgiving), which is not a paid holiday. Employees taking this day off who are not academic-year faculty will need to use leave credits, CTO, or dock pay.
While it is Cal Poly Humboldt’s intent to encourage employees to take the time off, some may choose to work during this closure. Please notify your appropriate administrator of your intention to work on November 29 no later than the morning of Monday, November 25. If notified after this time, appropriate administrators may be unable to provide meaningful work or safe and comfortable work spaces for employees requesting to work. For energy savings reasons, employees may be assigned to alternative work locations and/or assignments.
Please see applicable collective bargaining agreements regarding campus closure. If you will be docking pay, please enter the dock into absence management by November 18, annotating the docked period.
Facilities Notice
The campus is closed November 29 – December 1 to allow our campus employees to take this time off and relax. There will not be campus events or room reservations during this time. If you currently have a key to a facility you will still be able to gain access.
The Library will be open on November 30 from 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. and on December 1 from 11:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m.
Vacation Accruals
You are encouraged to look at your vacation balance and consider requesting approval to take time off before December 31 so that you do not lose any well-earned vacation time.
It is important to remember that any vacation time balance that exceeds your maximum allowable accrual is generally not permitted to carry over beyond the end of this calendar year (see table below for maximums). You can find your vacation leave balance by accessing “My Profile” on the myHumboldt website or through PeopleSoft Self Service. Please keep in mind that your personal holiday must be used by December 31. Requests for time off are to be directed to your appropriate administrator.

- Google Storage Limits are ChangingDear Campus Community, Starting January 6, we’ll be setting a temporary limit of 150 GB per person on Google Drive storage to help manage space while we work on a long-term plan. This proactive step will help us stay within Google’s storage limits moving forward. Don’t worry, if you are over the 150 GB limit now we’ll give you a bit of extra space, ~10%, to keep everything running smoothly during this transition.
