Fall 2023 Commencement

Graduation is a huge milestone for our students and the Fall 2023 Commencement celebrations are just around the corner! Help us celebrate our graduates by participating in Commencement.
Ceremony Schedule
Graduates will participate in the ceremony associated with their major and college affiliation below:
1:00 p.m. | College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences
1:00 p.m. | College of Professional Studies
3:30 p.m. | College of Natural Resources & Sciences
Student Registration
Student registration to participate closed on November 8. Eligible students still wishing to participate, can email grad@humboldt.edu.
A black cap and a black gown are required to participate in the Commencement ceremony. Caps, rental gowns, tassels, hoods, and more were available to order online through Herff Jones up through October 27. If a student missed the online deadline or needs additional items, regalia packages and individual items are available at The Campus Store on the Arcata Plaza. If students have any questions regarding regalia orders, have them contact The Campus Store at (707) 826-3741.

Faculty and Staff Participation
There are a myriad of details that go into running a successful Commencement. Employees are needed to assist on the day, whether it be participating in the procession or supporting Commencement "behind the scenes".
Processional Participation
Faculty and staff participating in the processional and who will be seated in the faculty/staff section during the Commencement ceremony are asked to register their participation by November 17. If you missed the deadline and would still like to participate, please email grad@humboldt.edu.
Those needing to order regalia to participate in the procession should have ordered through Herff Jones Faculty Direct by November 1. If regalia items are still needed or if there are any questions regarding faculty or staff regalia orders, please contact The Campus Store at (707) 826-3741. Items ordered online by the deadline will be available to pick up at The Campus Store on the Arcata Plaza around December 1.
Commencement Support
Staff who would like to provide support during the Commencement ceremony should make arrangements with their supervisor and submit their interest and availability by November 17. Positions such as greeting, ushering, handing out programs, providing ADA shuttle and wheelchair support, providing parking and traffic support, supporting the graduate and faculty/staff line-up area, etc. are needed. If you missed the deadline and would still like to participate, please email grad@humboldt.edu. Information regarding shifts and assignments will be shared closer to the event.

- Engineering & Technology Building Project Construction UpdateBeginning Friday April 25, 2025 at 6:00PM continuing through Saturday April 26, 2025, at 1:00PM the construction fencing along 17th Street will be reconfigured to allow for a large concrete pour for the Engineering & Technology Building Project. During this period there will be no through access for any vehicles. Authorized vehicles that need to access the parking lot between the Forestry and Natural Resources buildings should plan to enter from the east at the Wildlife Lane intersection. Pedestrian access should remain unimpeded.
- Fee Waiver DeadlineAs a reminder, the Fee Waiver Program provides eligible Cal Poly Humboldt employees and their dependents the opportunity to attend classes at Cal Poly Humboldt, or any CSU campus, at reduced rates. The program is designed to assist employees in improving current skills or preparing for a new career at Humboldt. It is also a benefit designed to support dependents of Cal Poly Humboldt employees to begin, or continue, their education journey.

- VSIP Deadline & Drop-in Office Hours (Zoom)As a reminder, there is one week left to apply for the Voluntary Separation Incentive Program (VSIP) with applications due on April 30, and we still have funding available for those who are interested in applying for the program. This program is intended to encourage eligible employees to voluntarily separate through a severance package on or before June 30, 2025.
- 39th Annual CSU Student Research CompetitionThis Friday, April 25 and Saturday, April 26 Cal Poly Humboldt is proud to host the 39th Annual CSU Student Research Competition, a celebration of the remarkable scholarly and creative accomplishments of our students. This dynamic event offers undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to present their research to the campus community and a panel of judges.
- ‘October 8’ Film ScreeningThe Jewish Student Group at Cal Poly Humboldt is hosting a film screening of “October 8” on Wednesday, April 23, 6–8 p.m., Gist Hall, Room 218. The documentary analyzes antisemitism on college campuses, social media, and in the United States beginning the day after the October 7 attack on Israel by Hamas.
