Cal Poly Humboldt Hosting CAL FIRE Firefighters
Cal Poly Humboldt has partnered with CAL FIRE to house up to 100 firefighters in residence halls on campus this week. The agreement comes as firefighters are fighting the nearby Hill Fire, just south of Willow Creek.
Humboldt previously hosted firefighters in 2020 during the state's largest wildfire season recorded in California's modern history, which saw a total of 4.3 million acres burned throughout the state, and the University also hosted CAL FIRE in 2015 during the Mad River Complex fires to the east.
The University is excited to be able to offer support to fire crews as they battle fires in the surrounding areas.
CAL FIRE’s stay on campus will not affect students moving into the residence halls next week.
Cal Poly Humboldt has worked with CAL FIRE for many years. Last year, the University and CAL FIRE formalized a partnership with a memorandum of understanding to share expertise and resources to improve fire management and response, as well as forest health and land management practices in California and across the West.
