At Cal Poly Humboldt, we recognize the importance of mental health and wellbeing for our employees and the entire community.Below is a comprehensive list of resources available for immediate and ongoing support, including crisis health lines, counseling services, and community-based programs.
Short-term cost-free counseling and other wellbeing resources
Employee Assistance Program (EAP) - LifeMatters, through Empathia, is available to Cal Poly Humboldt employees and their dependents/same-household family members, who can access personal counseling services from licensed professionals by visiting https://hraps.humboldt.edu/employee-assistance-program.
Departmental Counseling Visits - Departments can arrange for a counselor from LifeMatters to visit and provide on-site services for employees. To set up a departmental visit, please email: HR@humboldt.edu with the subject line Empathia Departmental Visit Request.
*Department visits typically require a 24-hour notice.
Immediate Crisis Support
· Humboldt County Behavioral Health 24-Hour Crisis Line (707) 445-7715 - Available to the general community for psychiatric emergencies as well as severe and chronic mental health conditions. Services include outpatient care, medication support, Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU), and Sempervirens Psychiatric Health Facility, depending on a person’s level of need. Assessments, referrals and emergency services are available 24/7.
· CA Youth Crisis Line (CYCL) (800) 843-5200 - The California Youth Crisis Line operates 24/7 as the statewide emergency response system for youth (ages 12-24) and families in crisis. Professionally trained staff and volunteer counselors provide crisis intervention counseling and resource referrals to service providers in the caller’s local community. Access to more than 5,500 free or low-cost resources for youth and families across California.
· National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255 - The Lifeline provides 24/7, free and confidential support for people in distress, prevention, and crisis resources.
Ongoing Community-Based Counseling
· Humboldt Family Service Center (707)443-7358 - Provides individual, couples, and family therapy and specialty services (such as anger management, family violence program, drug diversion program, child welfare services counseling). Sliding fee scale, cash pay, and insurance pay. https://humboldtfamily.org
· North American Mental Health Services (707) 296-7660 – provides psychotherapy in person or online for adults and children. In person services are based in Eureka. Online psychiatry appointments are also available.
· North Coast Association of Mental Health Professionals https://ncamph.org - NCAMPH provides a local mental health provider directory to assist with finding a provider. Filters on the site will allow you to search for a provider by your criteria (e.g., insurance, areas of specialization, etc.).
· Open Door Community Health Centers– provides behavioral health (counseling, evaluation, referrals) services for patients of their clinics. They have locations in Eureka, Arcata, and McKinleyville. https://opendoorhealth.com/services/behavioral-health/
· United Indian Health Services / Potawot Health Village (707) 825-5000 – available for our local Indian communities. Services are inclusive of mental health, including individual, couples, and family therapy, as well as substance abuse treatment, traditional sweats and healing. https://unitedindianhealthservices.org/index.php/behavioral-health/

- Alert: Recent Phishing Attack Targeting Cal Poly Humboldt AccountsDear Cal Poly Humboldt Community, We’re reaching out to alert you about a recent phishing campaign that has directly impacted our campus community, including staff, faculty, and students. What Happened: Last night, a phishing email was sent from a compromised account at another university. The message directed recipients to a fake Google Site, which then led to a spoofed login page that closely mimicked our official Cal Poly Humboldt authentication portal.

- California Whistleblower Protection Act, 2025 Annual NotificationThe California State University (CSU) is required to inform its employees about the CWPA (CA Gov. Code §§8574 et. Seq.) by June 30, 2025. As part of this annual notice, Cal Poly Humboldt is required to display the CWPA poster in employee campus locations and provide an email notification with the attached brochure for your information.
- Applications for Emeritus Status for Tenured Faculty and Retired Lecturers, Staff, and Administrators Due Sept. 1Cal Poly Humboldt retired faculty, staff and administors seeking emeritus status should email their nominators “The Informational Template” by Aug. 15, 2025. “Nominations” for emeritus status for tenured faculty and retired lecturer, staff, and administrators are due to the University Senate office by September 1, 2025.
- Reminder: Housing, Dining & Health Project Construction FencingStarting on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 the contractor for the Housing, Dining & Health Project will erect construction fencing that will encompass the site so they can begin demolition work in this area. Access to this area will be restricted to necessary personnel only until work has been completed, which is currently scheduled for October 2025.
