ACCEPTING NOMINATIONS: 2026 McCrone Promising Faculty Scholars Award
Sponsored Programs Foundation is pleased to request nominations for the McCrone Promising Faculty Scholars Award for Cal Poly Humboldt faculty members. This fund was created to honor Dr. and Mrs. McCrone, who together supported Cal Poly Humboldt and its students for over a quarter of a century. This award will recognize Humboldt’s newer faculty, acknowledge their potential in their field of research, and encourage their continued achievement.
In addition, nominations for the Alistair and Judith McCrone Graduate Fellowship, which recognizes one outstanding graduate student, are also open. Fellowship details can be found on Engagement Hub.
ELIGIBILITY: Tenured/Tenure track faculty members from all fields who have received their terminal degrees within the last seven (7) years and who are actively involved in research are eligible. Nominations for the award are sought from the campus community and will consist of a letter (no more than two pages) indicating the nominee’s qualifications for the award. Eligible faculty may self-nominate.
AWARD AMOUNT: Each awardee will receive a $1,500 award to be used to assist in their program of creative activity, scholarship, or research.
SUBMISSION INFORMATION: Please submit a nomination letter through our online portal which can be accessed through Engagement Hub. Nominees will be invited to submit a current curriculum vitae and a brief (no more than two pages) statement about their current and anticipated research activities.
IMPORTANT DATES: Letters of Nomination must be submitted through our online portal which can be accessed through Engagement Hub by Thursday, Feb 26, 2026 at 11:59 PM. Awards will be presented at a reception held from 4-6pm Tuesday, Nov 10, 2026. The recipient must be available to attend the reception in-person and give a short presentation of their research.
SELECTION PROCESS: The Planning Committee for Research, Scholarship, & Creative Activities in collaboration with one previous Scholar of the Year will select up to three award recipients in Spring 2026. Award announcements will be sent out by April 15th.

- MLK Jr. Day on, Not a Day OffNovember 12, 2025 Cal Poly Humboldt students, staff and faculty, and community members are invited to join Youth Educational Services (Y.E.S.) for a morning of community service on Martin Luther King Jr. Day—Monday, Jan. 19, 2026, from 8 a.m. to noon. This is a wonderful opportunity to contribute to local organizations while commemorating the life and legacy of Dr. King. This event will feature volunteer projects on campus and at community sites. Transportation, breakfast snacks, coffee and tea will be provided.
- Funding Opportunity: Higher Learning Program - Mellon FoundationMellon Foundation - Higher Learning Program Registration Deadline: Monday, December 1, 2025 by 12pm Concept Deadline: Tuesday, February 17, 2026 by 12pm. Please note - Institutions are limited to submitting no more than three concepts by the application deadline. Finalists will be selected by Mellon Foundation, and invitations for full proposals will be issued during the summer of 2026. There is no limit to how many individuals per institution can register.
