Director of Academic Resources, Office of Academic Affairs
It is with great pleasure that I announce that Patrick Orona has been selected as the Director of Academic Resources in the Office of Academic Affairs at Cal Poly Humboldt after a nationwide search for the position. He will begin his role on October 7, 2024.
Patrick has worked at Cal Poly Humboldt since 2019 and held positions as a Budget Analyst and Reporting Specialist, Budget Manager, and, more recently, as the Interim Director of Budget & Financial Planning within Cal Poly Humboldt’s Budget Office. Patrick possesses a wide range of knowledge and skills in budget, finance, and accounting. He has strengths in strategic planning, financial analysis, and policy implementation. Patrick's skills in data analysis, financial trends, and performance metrics will be assets for the Division of Academic Affairs as we continue to strategically align our limited resources with the critical purpose of the institution in delivering an excellent and accessible academic experience. Patrick has also emerged as a leader in the California State University (CSU) system particularly in budgeting systems like Questica.
In his free time, Patrick can be found running, attending live music events, and spending time with loved ones.
“I want to thank Provost Jenn Capps for the opportunity to serve Academic Affairs here at Cal Poly Humboldt. It's an exciting and pivotal time as we transition to a polytechnic institution, and I'm truly honored to continue to be a part of it. While I have met and shared space with many of you already during my time here, I look forward to strengthening relationships and building new ones over the weeks and months to come.”
I am really excited for Patrick to join our Academic Affairs Leadership team. He is uniquely skilled at strategic budget management, building relationships, and communicating budgetary information in a way that is accessible to people at levels of budgetary literacy. I also want to extend my gratitude to the search committee and in particular Mike Le who chaired the search for the Director of Academic Resources.
Patrick will fill a crucial role in the Academic Affairs leadership team that has been vacant for the last several years. The re-introduction of this role will assist us significantly in making meaningful strides toward increased strategic resource management (Academic Affairs Strategic Priority #3 for Academic Year 2024-2025).
Please help me extend congratulations to him.
Sincerely,
Dr. Jenn Capps
Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs
