November 12, 2025
Cal Poly Humboldt students, staff and faculty, and community members are invited to join Youth Educational Services (Y.E.S.) for a morning of community service on Martin Luther King Jr. Day—Monday, Jan. 19, 2026, from 8 a.m. to noon. This is a wonderful opportunity to contribute to local organizations while commemorating the life and legacy of Dr. King. This event will feature volunteer projects on campus and at community sites. Transportation, breakfast snacks, coffee and tea will be provided.
What is Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Why is it a “Day of Service?”
Legislation signed in 1983 marked the birthday of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. as a federal holiday. In 1994, Congress designated Martin Luther King, Jr. Federal Holiday as a national day of service. Each year, on the third Monday in January, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service is observed as a day on, not a day off.

8 - 8:30 a.m.: Volunteer Registration & Welcome
8:30 - 9 a.m.: Transportation to Community Sites
9 - 11:45 a.m.: Community Service Projects
