ABOUT: This webinar series centers on hydrology but explores topics with broader applicability. Sessions address transferable skills for non-academic careers, strategies for securing diverse grant funding, and emerging data science applications in hydrology. All sessions are recorded, so participants are encouraged to register even if unable to attend live.

Reframing research language for impactful and relevant Broader Impact statements

Aug. 27, 2025 / 9:00–10:00 a.m.

This seminar is designed to support early-career researchers navigating NSF proposal writing (postdoctoral fellowships, GRFP, CAREER). The panel will include professionals such as NSF program managers, university deans, mid-career professors with experience shifting language, and mid- to late-career government researchers who have experience with administration turnover.

Highlighting Skill Sets for Careers Outside of Academia

This seminar will focus on how to identify key skill sets and develop new ones necessary for a successful career outside of academia. Topics will include guidance on finding non-academic jobs, resume building, interview preparation, and expanding your professional network.

Expanding Funding Landscape: Non-Federal Funding Opportunities

Oct. 8, 2025 / 10:00–11:00 a.m.

With federal funding being increasingly competitive, diversifying funding sources is vital in hydrology and environmental science. This seminar explores non-federal opportunities from nonprofits and state/local agencies. Experts will discuss strategies for finding grants, writing competitive proposals, and aligning projects with funder priorities.

Leveraging AI and Data Science in Hydrology

Nov. 5, 2025 / 10:00–11:00 a.m.

AI and data science are reshaping environmental research, from modeling and forecasting to decision-making. A panel of experts will highlight applications in hydrology, emerging methods, open-source tools, and cross-sector collaborations. Participants will gain insight into evolving skill sets for thriving in this data-driven field.
