Holi: Festival of Colors, Spring, & Love
University Upper Quad, University Lower Quad Friday, March 28, 2025, 4 – 8:30pm Let's bid Winter a warm goodbye and welcome in the Spring by celebrating Holi! Holi also known as the "Festival of Colors" which is a Hindu festival that celebrates the arrival of spring along with the triumph of good over evil and lastly the divine love between Radha and Krishna! What better way to celebrate but with some delicious snacks, music, dancing, many games such as finding the coin, a color scavenger hunt, coin-stacking (you can even win prizes while supplies last) and make friendship bracelets, get mehndi, lotus flower potting and more! Of course we also couldn't forget the main event the color powder throwing so be sure to wear white when you come! We hope to be able to see you there and wish you joyful start of the new season! - YES Serve-a-Thon (S25)Off-campus Potawot Community Food Garden Monday, March 31, 2025, 9:30am – 12:30pm Join the Y.E.S. Serve-a-Thon volunteer day at the Potawot Community Food Garden. This is an annual event in honor of Cesar Chavez Day. It also serves as a finale for the annual Y.E.S. fundraiser! Volunteers will assist with outdoor projects which may include weeding, tending greenhouse plants, orchard care, and more! - Distinguished Faculty Lecture- L. CannonNelson Hall 102 - Goodwin Forum Wednesday, April 9, 2025, 5 – 7pm Distinguished Faculty Award recipients are nominated by their colleagues or students. Nominations that meet eligibility criteria specified for the award are then reviewed by a committee of previous award winners. Loren Cannon has been awarded the Outstanding Service Award for the 2023/24 Academic Year. All are welcome to join his lecture commemorating this achievement. Title: Service as Care-Work in the Contemporary University Context Summary: Loren will lead an investigatory discussion to delve into the extent that service work can be rightly understood as actions and attitudes of Care. We will discuss whether this kind of framing is helpful in our efforts to create a care-infused university or misplaced given the realities of the contemporary context. Pulling from the philosophical literature as well as personal experience, Loren will try to thread the conceptual needle between celebrating practices of Care that strengthen our communities and encouraging potentially unhealthy practices that result in squishy professional boundaries and unmanageable working conditions.
